2 Foreword by Tom Owen Welcome to the "Summer Wine" Exhibition. Such was my father's love of "Last of the Summer Wine" and this little town of Holmfirth, he decided that there should be a permanent record in the town of the world's longest running television comedy. In association with the Summer Wine Appreciation Society and the photographer Malcolm Howarth, he created the Last of the Summer Wine Exhibition. Over the thirty years of the programme there have been many wonderful moments many of which are captured in this display. Roy Clarke has written every word of every episode. Ronnie Hazelhurst is still writing the incidental music in addition to composing what must be one of the most memorable television theme tunes and Alan J.W. Bell is still producing and directing the series. Over the past seven years we have not only lost Bill Owen but alas, also dear Gordon Wharmby and the unique Thora Hird. I have inherited this exhibition from my father and I would like to dedicate it not only to him but to Ivy's Sid, Nora's Wally, Edie's Wesley and to Edie herself. I hope you enjoy the Exhibition and your time here in Holmfirth. With love and many thanks for watching - without you there wouldn't be a series !! Tom Owen |
